Sunburn Remedies

Sunburns, I think everyone has been through the agonizing days and wish it would just
end. Well with sunburn treatments it can make those days A LOT easier, and I mean a lot.
These treatments can soothe the pain and even delay the time of peel. Such products as
Aloe Vera or Noxzema can work wonders on your skin. For even more comfort with these products you can refrigerate them. Some people might say that Noxzema does not work, but personally
I think it works just as well as Aloe Vera gel. Also keep hydrated the sun can
dehydrate people very quickly so make sure to drink plenty of water.

Home Remedies

  • Vinegar

Now If you can stand the smell, Yes that’s right vinegar. You can apply
it any way you want as long as you do not rub it. You could dab it with a cloth
if you please, another way of applying without rubbing is fine. I find that a spray bottle works great.

  • Cool/Luke Warm shower

Alright there is only one problem about this method, once your out of the shower its going to start to hurt again. Unless you keep applying a cold cloth to the sunburned area this method isn’t as effective as the others.

  • Tea

For those who can not stand the smell of vinegar you can use tea. Brew tea and
cool it, from there apply to the skin how you like. Another thing is to add baking soda to your bath and soak in your bath for as long as you want.

  • Cucumber

Cut and rub the cucumber on sunburned spots, unlike a rough towel this will feel cool and soothing.

  • Milk

People say that milk can release the pain of sunburn because of the fat content in it, again just soak a cloth with milk apply for 10-15 minutes and remove and repeat.

  • Mustard

This can be an alternative for the vinegar because of its high amount of acid. This also can be used not only on sunburns but any other kind of burn.

  • Cold Compress

This one is self explanatory, put the cold compress on your sunburn. If you don’t have a cold compress you can use a bag of vegetables but wrap it in a towel first.

What Not To Put On A Sunburn

  • butter

The greasiness of the butter can hold heat slowing the healing process.

  • Soap

Soap actually dries the skin and that is not what you want for your sunburn. Also hot water tends to dry out your skin too.

Pretty much anything that dries your skin is bad. You want to keep your skin moisturized to prevent further damage

How To Get A Great Tan

A tan, the one thing everyone wish they had. It’s not as hard as some think. It just takes time and dedication. Before tanning you want to take a hot shower to get rid of dead skin cells that might slow the tanning process. When you do go tanning you should always wear sunscreen. If your strictly wanting to tan I would recommend a low SPF sunscreen.(some sunscreen is better than no sunscreen). Now the tanning, you should make sure you get a full even tan, no one likes having untanned blotches. When laying down on your back make sure to have your forearm facing up so you can cover the inside of your arms. When on your stomach have your arms out palms down and always don’t forget to protect your eyes wear sunglasses or have a towel covering your face. The rays of the sun is strongest during 10 A.M and 4 P.M. Remember take tanning in moderation, you only need a hour to a hour and a half a sun a day.

    Products

  • Tanning Lotions

If you want a better tan you could use tanning lotions. These lotions help get a tan while spending less time in the sun. There are also sunless tanning believe it or not. You apply it to your skin and it stimulates the same things it would as if you were lying in the sun. It is not a dye or paint you are actually getting a suntan.

  • Spray On Tan

This is the most safest way to get a tan because you have zero exposure to UV rays, but remember not to inhale the spray because it can be toxic. Before getting a spray tan you want to moisturize and prepare your skin. If you have a local tanning both you can get sprayed there. You have to let the spray set so try not to have a shower or sweat too much. A tear in the skin could cause your tan to start peel, be careful with your skin! Again after getting a spray tan make sure to keep your skin moisturized. People recommend to just go outside and get a real tan, spray tanning can be very problematic but if you don’t have time and want to have a quick tan this is the way to go.

    Symptoms Of A Sunburn

    When you get sunburn there may be symptoms. The symptoms can arise from;

  • chills,
  • feve
  • skin swelling,
  • dizziness
  • headaches

    Severe Sunburn

  • nausea
  • blistering
  • Sunstroke

With the chills you will have the feeling of being cold while your body is actually hot. Your muscles usually contract and relax to try to stay warm thinking its cold. Chills are usually a sign that a fever is coming. A fever is very common if you have decent sunburn. The normal temperature for a human is 36.8 °C or 98.2 °F. A low grade fever can range from 38-39 °C, a moderate fever can range from 39-40 °C, anything higher would be considered a high grade fever and should seek medical attention.

With Severe sunburns nausea and blistering is a big factor. Blisters can easily become infected, signs of infection are; Increased pain, swelling, redness or if the blister is full of pus. Small blisters tend to heal on their own along with large blisters they will pop on their own then heal. Try not to wear clothing where the blister is, it can irritate the skin and slow down the healing process. If you have to pop a blister make sure to wash your hands and sterilize the needle, rubbing alcohol works for this.

Also being in the sun too long can cause sunstroke or heatstroke and can be very dangerous. Sunstroke is when your body is overheated and can’t cool itself down. Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headaches, and loss of consciousness come along with sunstroke. You should get medical help if you think you have sunstroke. Like a fever you want to cool the person down as fast as you can when they have sunstroke. Give them a cool bath or place ice packs on them, just keep them cool! If you think it gets worse go to your doctor for medical help.

    Preventing Sunstroke

Follow these steps to help prevent sunstroke. Firstly drink lots of water you want to keep hydrated when your in the sun, constantly take sips of water because your also losing lots of fluids if you are sweating. Next wear a hat or something that will help cover you from the sun. Avoid going out from 10 A.M to 4 P.M that is when the suns rays are strongest. If your going on a hike don’t overdo it, know your limits.

    Why You Should Wear Sunscreen

People commonly think that even if they do have a good tan or think its a good idea to not wear sunscreen to build a tan ITS NOT! The sun alone hitting your skin causes plenty of damage; the only sure way of being outside without sunscreen is in the shade out of the sun or to wear covering clothing such as wide brimmed hats. Contrary to what people think being in water does not block the sun, the water actually magnifies the sun making it just as strong when your in the water.

Sunscreen does more than just protect you from a sun burn, it protects your skin from Ultra-violet rays Killing the skin cells and damaging your DNA. SPF stands for; Sun Protection Factor, this means that if a sunscreen has a SPF of 10 that you could stay in the sun 10 times longer before you would burn. An example would be if you were in the sun for 10 minutes and started to burn at the end of that 10 minutes, with a sunscreen of 15 SPF you would be able to stay out in the sun for 150 minutes before you would start to burn. That is why higher SPF sunscreen lasts longer and can be more effective.

For those people who don’t like spreading sunscreen all over their body they now have spray on sunscreen for convenient easy to apply ways. There are also ones that are colorless and odorless. They also have sunscreens that have very attracting smells and not just the plain “sunscreen” smell. I’ve even seen a sunscreen/bug repellent all in one. Who would have thought the sun is so bad for our skin when it feels so nice. Be safe and enjoy the sun!

    What Is A Sunburn?

A sunburn is your body reacting to direct DNA damage. Sunscreen will prevent This.
There are three types of ultraviolet rays that can cause damage. UVA, UVB and UVC. All
three of these can damage collagen fibers (main protein of connective tissue)
increasing the speed of aging. UBV rays are the ones responsible for creating
sunburns, While UVC rays are mostly blocked by the Earths atmosphere because of its
short wavelength. It too can still cause skin damage along with UVA rays.

Ways to identify that you are sunburned is the red glow your skin has, it is
also warm to the touch. Some people might wonder why sunburns are usually warm, it is warm because its your body reacting trying to repair the dead/burned cells by increasing blood flow to that area. The pain can very on how badly you are sunburned from mild
to extremely painful. You can usually tell how bad your sunburn is by blisters or
how dark the red of the burn is. Everyone burns at a differnt rate, someone with a fair skin tone will be prone to burn easier than a person with a darker skin color. Always after a Sunburn you will peel, you can help delay the peel with different treatments, but you will peel. Peeling is the way your body gets rid of the dead skin cells that have been killed from over exposure to the sun. When you start to see peeling then you know that your new skin is on its way.

Believe it or not you can get a sunburn other than in the summer, winter is another time that you have to watch out for sunburns. If you ski you will know what I’m talking about. Skiiers sometimes will have a white area on their face from were their ski mask has been, with this you can clearly see what part of their skin has be exposed. In fact Snow reflects the suns light 80% more than what sand what do at the beach.
